2022 memorial sovereign

For the first year in history, the Royal Mint have issued two separate editions of the gold sovereign within the same year.
In order to avoid conflict, they have named the second edition the Memorial Gold Sovereign. The second 2022 sovereign is a commemoration of her majesty’s reign which is the first gold sovereign to feature King Charles’s portrait on the coin.
The Memorial Gold Sovereign features a modern day interpretation of the United Kingdom’s coat of arms and is a highly desired coin both within Great Britain and overseas. The coins were struck in five, two, one, half and quarter denominations and are available in proof, matte and bullion condition.
All production of Sovereign 2022 bullion coins which feature the effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been stopped now.

2022 Memorial Sovereign
Struck to bullion standard, a memorial edition of The Sovereign, The Royal Mint’s flagship coin, honours the life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In tribute to Her Majesty, Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic St George and the dragon design stands aside for an intricate reinterpretation of the Royal Arms by Jody Clark.
This is also the first Sovereign bullion coin range bearing the official coinage portrait of His Majesty The King, which heralds a new chapter for the British monarchy.
This Sovereign is dated 2022 as it was struck to memorialise the passing of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. A further Sovereign bullion coin range will launch in 2023.
