King Charles III’s coronation is steeped in history, with traditions dating back to William the Conqueror’s coronation in 1066, and the continuation of these traditions is in keeping with the King’s wish to “look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.” To commemorate this historic occasion, a special commemorative gold one-eighth sovereign coin has been created, featuring the new ‘Coronation Emblem’ specifically designed for the King.

The Coronation Emblem pays tribute to The King’s love of the natural world and to the four countries of the United Kingdom, bringing together the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales, and the shamrock of Northern Ireland into the shape of the St Edward’s Crown. The design is the first of its kind to be featured on a one-eighth sovereign coin. Additionally, the mintage is incredibly modest, adding to the coin’s value and rarity.
